About

Hi!

I’m Tomoko, a classically trained Pilates teacher in Tokyo. Over ten years of learning and teaching in New York City, I studied across Pilates lineages, including those of Romana Kryzanowska and Kathy Grant.
I bring that foundation into attentive, exploratory, and fun sessions. I love helping you notice something new—a small adjustment, a different connection, or a movement you didn’t think you could do. There’s room for questions, curiosity, and a laugh along the way.
I discovered Pilates while rebuilding my strength after giving birth. It helped me feel stronger through my center, more comfortable in my body, and more confident.
Having worked with clients of different ages, body types, and backgrounds in NYC, I adapt each session to your goals, experience, and how you feel that day. I want you to feel welcome, enjoy the challenge, and take something useful into everyday life.
I’m excited to begin a new chapter in Tokyo. Curiosity, authenticity, and resilience guide my work—and I look forward to exploring movement with you.

More about Tomoko

Tomoko completed an apprenticeship of more than 500 hours at BodyTonic Pilates Gymnasium, one of the first fully equipped Pilates studios in Brooklyn. She went on to teach at studios in Manhattan and Brooklyn, including ZenGirl Fitness and Bombshell Pilates, alongside her private practice.

Her comprehensive training follows the classical Pilates tradition through the lineage of Romana Kryzanowska. She is also a graduate of the Kathy Grant Heritage Training Program with Cara Reeser and a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher through the National Pilates Certification Program (NPCP). Her education across these lineages informs the precise, curious, and adaptable approach she brings to each session.

Before becoming a Pilates teacher, Tomoko worked as a global health professional in advocacy and communications, contributing to projects with international organizations and nonprofit organizations. Earlier in her career, she worked in corporate communications and social responsibility, including HIV/AIDS initiatives.

She holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) in International Community Health Education from New York University and a degree in International Relations from Tsuda University. She also completed a medical interpreting course at Inter School.

Her background in health education continues to shape her practice: making movement accessible, relevant to everyday life, and supportive of people through different stages of their lives.
